JM Sweden/Regional Musik i Sverige

Founded: 2006 | Member: 2020

The purpose of Regional Musik i Sverige – RMS, is to utilize Swedens regional music institutions common interests and to be a forum for exchange of experiences.

There are three programs within JMI included in the membership: Ethno, Imagine and Young Audiences Music.

Ethno was founded in 1990, and it is aimed at young musicians (up to 30 years old) with a mission to revive and keep alive global cultural heritage. Present today in over 30 countries, Ethno engages young people through a series of annual international music camps as well as workshops, concerts and tours, working together with schools, conservatories and other groups of youth to promote peace, tolerance and understanding. At the core of Ethno is its democratic, peer to peer learning approach whereby young people teach each other the music from their countries and cultures. It is a non-formal pedagogy that has been refined over the past 30 years, embracing the principles of intercultural dialogue and understanding. Ethno provides a unique opportunity for young people from across the globe to come together and engage through music in a manner that is characterized by respect, generosity and openness. The bonds that are made during this week become incredibly strong and the power of the Ethno concept has influenced people in several countries to start other Ethno camps with Ethno Sweden as a role model.

Imagine Sweden (former Musik Direkt) has been running for more than 30 years and has since the start engaged over 80 000 Swedish musicians and artists. It is open for all genres and for the ages 13-21. From young people who are entering the stage for the first time to really experienced musicians and artists, there is something for everyone in this program. Imagine Sweden arrange events such as seminars, workshops, jam sessions etc. The participants meet new friends, play live and connecting and networking with the music business. The musical level is really high, and several of the finalists and winners have become successful musicians during the years. Besides all the experiences, the participants can win prizes such as festival gigs, studio time, individual coaching etc. The winner in Imagine Sweden represents Sweden at the Imagine Music Experience International Final.

YAM (Young Audiences Music) is an international platform for everyone working to bring live music to children and youth.

It is a place for people to connect, to ask questions and to discuss so that together we may build the future of music for young people and the access to high quality live music experiences that entertain and educate.

The program includes the YAMsession an international conference and showcase; the YAMawards, identifying and supporting cutting-edge live musical productions from all over the world that impact young people, both artistically and socially. YAMspace, an online platform that provides industry professionals with an environment where to share, discuss and access information that will enable them to better their work. YAM makes up over 40% of JMI’s activities with 14,000 concerts annually across the world.
