Jeunesses Musicales Uganda is proud to present the two events that will open and close the gates of the summer of music 2016: DOADOA, the East African Performing Arts Market, and the Bayimba International Festival of the Arts.
When: 4th to 7th of May 2016
Where: Kampala, Uganda
DOADOA is a joint initiative of a number of leading creative entrepreneurs in East Africa that have joined forces to develop the market for performing arts in East Africa and unlock the potential of the East African creative industry by providing an annual platform for professional networking and mutual learning, bringing together various stakeholders in the creative industry to link people, organizations, businesses, knowledge and technology.
DOADOA gives stakeholders in the music industry (e.g. musicians, music producers, music promoters, managers and music festivals), but also of other performing arts (such as drama and dance) the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience, to network and learn. There will be conferences, discussions, seminars and practical training workshops by experts from the regional and international industry as well as informal networking sessions, mentorship opportunities and showcases by selected artists. A rise in the number of professionals is expected to join for the fifth DOADOA during the 4 day programme.
When: From 16th to 18th of September 2016
Where: Kampala, Uganda
The Bayimba International Festival of the Arts forms an important benchmark for the consumption of Uganda’s finest arts. Every third week of September, Kampala comes alive as a vibrant and eventful city when an unparalleled feast of music, dance, theatre, film, and visual arts from renowned and upcoming artists are brought to Kampala. The Festival has developed into a major multi-arts festival with varied and qualitative programming, presenting exciting, innovative and creative ideas. It is eagerly awaited by local artists and local people alike while artists from abroad and visitors from far afield pour into Kampala to take advantage of the exciting artistic experience. The Festival has truly become a highlight on Uganda’s social and cultural calendar and is also gradually developing into an important (East) African destination Festival, ensuring regional and international visitation and enhancing both national and international cultural tourism.
The Bayimba International Festival of the Arts is undoubtedly Uganda’s number one Festival – physically, by offering exciting artistic experiences to as many Ugandans as possible; artistically, by presenting Uganda’s finest artists and upcoming talents from across the country (discovered through its various activities, including one-day Festivals throughout Uganda); demographically, by engaging as many Ugandans as possible, thus making the Bayimba Festival their own; and organizationally, by being led by a team of committed and experienced Ugandans. Past editions registered a significant increase in the participation of artists from Uganda, East Africa and beyond while the Festival audience grew from a mere 100 people in 2008 to 50,000 and more people in 2015. The 9th edition of the Bayimba International Festival is aiming at again adding additional value to the arts in Uganda, East Africa and beyond and at developing our audiences.
