Young Audiences Music Awards (YAMawards) promote and honour creativity and innovation in the field of music for young audiences. The 8th edition of the YAMawards is now open and officially accepting applications. This year we aim to continue connecting young people and children with music and culture in ways that inspire, enlighten and delight.
Participation is open to all music-based live productions for audiences up to 18 years of age. Whether soloist, group, ensemble or orchestra, the main criteria are: quality of music, quality of performance, relevance/necessity of the program, audience communication and international touring potential. Due to the awards’ growth and artistic exigency, the YAMawards will be open to 3 distinct categories, each with their own winner:
On top of these accolades, cash prizes will be presented to the Production of the Year and the winners of the Public Choice Award (selected from the top 4 nominees in each category).
Previous winners include Rikskonsertene/Kulturtanken (Norway), Oorkaan (The Netherlands), Smalands Musik&Teater (Sweden), Body Rhythm Factory (Denmark), Zonzo Compagnie (Belgium), Jazz for Juniors (South Africa) and Muziektheater Transparant (Belgium).
*The YAM Best Opera for Young Audiences Award is powered by RESEO, The European Network for Opera and Dance Education.
Applications close on the 1st of June, 2017. The online application form and terms & conditions are available at www.yamawards.org.
The YAMawards are governed by international juries composed of young audiences professionals from Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI) and RESEO (the European Network for Opera & Dance Education). The 2017 YAMawards nominees will be announced on the 4th of August, 2017, when they will be placed online and open to public voting.
The winners are to be announced at the YAMawards ceremony that will take place in on the 4th of September 2017 during JMI’s YAMsession event. This international music conference, held from the 4th to the 6th of September, includes international showcases from seven countries, a producers’ forum and a host of provocative talks, encounters and debates between creative professionals working in the field of young audiences music development.
