The Cultural Schoolbag (DKS) celebrates 25 years of championing access to arts and culture for young audiences across Norway!

The Cultural Schoolbag (DKS), a nationwide programme to ensure that all school pupils in Norway experience professional arts and culture of all kinds, is a collaborative project between the Ministry of Culture and Equality and the Ministry of Education and Research, and with all counties and municipalities in Norway.

Since becoming part of the Norwegian government’s culture policy in 2001, DKS has provided cultural experiences and professional arts programmes to every primary and secondary school in Norway, reaching more than 800,000 students every year.

Together with facilitators, producers, artistic collaborators, organisations, teachers and dedicated educators, DKS delivers high-quality activities that span the full spectrum of artistic expression, from film, literature, music and cultural heritage, to performing and visual arts. Regardless of background or place of residence, Norwegian students have the opportunity not only to experience the arts, but also to become familiar with them and deepen their understanding of diverse cultural and artistic expressions.

DKS is a long-standing YAM partner and we deeply share the same values around the importance of encounters with art and culture for children and youth in building a sense of community, opening new perspectives, and serving as a powerful democratic instrument in society. We would like to congratulate DKS on the occasion of its 25th anniversary and on its continued role in helping to lay the cultural foundations for future generations of students.
