Global Music Campus: MCA Teacher Training

The Music Crossroads Academies have gathered in Harare, Zimbabwe for the 6th annual Global Music Campus organised by the Global Music Academy (GMA).

This year’s campus will be a 15-day intensive musical training and will be hosted by Music Crossroads Academy Zimbabwe, between 29/11/15 and 15/12/15.

The campus will be training 20 MCA teachers from Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, to develop the much-needed technical, theoretical and pedagogical skills, in order to improve their livelihood in the creative industry. The training will cover topics that are included in the MCA Professional Certificate Program including: Music Pedagogy, Melodic Reading, Transcribing, Main Instrument and Ensemble.

The Global Music Campus is an inclusive teacher training and skills development platform providing innovative teaching solutions. The campus aims at training teachers to document and transcribe their own music cultures themselves, thereby developing new teaching materials and curricula for implementation within the targeted geographical areas. The involvement of different regions of Africa allows cultural interaction and collaboration among the four countries attending this year.

All the International teachers/facilitators, organised through our pedagogical partners GMA, are experienced and dedicated music educators with many years of experience in the field. As a team they have been responsible for the development and implementation of the MCA curriculum throughout the life of the project, and they taught at the campuses. They have developed an intimate knowledge of the MCA teacher trainees, their strengths, weaknesses and potential.

To wrap up the training, all trainees will perform together at the closing concert hosted at MCA Zimbabwe. This concert will invite local music consumers, music stakeholders and musicians. The high quality of this event will allow participants to present the skills acquired during the training campus and demonstrate the importance of music education and training, and sensitize the community about the importance preservation of culture and traditional music identity in the region.
