After a six months struggle to get private funding, Projeto Guri succeeded in promoting the second edition of Imagine Brazil. The five regional finals and the National Final took place in September and October 2016, showing a great diversity of genres. In the words of Per Ekedahl, honorary president of JMI and president of Imagine Brazil jury, “already after some of the semi-finals it was evident that the musical and artistic level was higher than last year. The fact that Imagine is an all style competition is extraordinary. During Imagine Brazil this was obvious, and it also functioned very well. We could enjoy classical, sing and song, jazz, Brazilian popular, pop, and rock - from light to heavy. In the end, the winners themselves, the very excellent Trio Alma Brasileira, played somewhat of a mixture of styles, thus proving the Imagine as a relevant concept for young musicians”.
Trio Alma Brasileira writes their own arrangements of classic Brazilian repertoire for double bass (Theo Fraga), guitar (Guilherme Sakamuta) and vibraphone (Gabriel Peregrino), reinventing some masterpieces of the greatest Brazilian composers such as Villa Lobos, Radamés Gnatali and Ernesto Nazareth. We wish them the best of luck for the International Finals in 2017!
